Anthony Weiss

Dr. Weiss also serves as the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs in the College of Medicine and Assistant Professor in Psychiatry at Upstate Medical University, a two-campus academic medical center with more than 700 beds.

Prior to his current roles at Upstate, Dr. Weiss had spent 17 years at Massachusetts General Hospital, holding leadership roles in quality management, clinical policy, and health information management. He is a physician-executive and practicing psychiatrist who has focused his career around issues of change management and physician engagement, as well as mental health care quality.

Dr. Weiss a board-certified psychiatrist, with subspecialty board certification in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry. His scientific efforts have included both translational neuroscience, as well as health services research, predominately in the domain of mental and behavioral health care. His primary area of current academic interest relates to the ethical aspects of neuroscientific innovation; he is the Chair of the Standards and Ethics Committee of the American Neuropsychiatric Association and plays an advisory role to the International Neuroethics Society. He has more than 70 publications.

A Wisconsin native, Dr. Weiss earned his bachelor’s degree in pharmacology and toxicology and a doctorate in medicine from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also holds a master’s degree from Harvard Medical School and an MBA, summa cum laude, from Babson College.
