Erin S. DuPree

Dr. DuPree has led efforts to improve safety culture, evidence-based care, and critical processes that affect patient care, most recently as the Chief Medical Officer at the Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare and, prior to that, at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York City

Dr. DuPree is a recognized leader in health care quality, with expertise in performance improvement methodology, patient safety, and information technology. She is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist and is certified as a Six Sigma Green Belt and a TeamSTEPPS (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety) master trainer. Dr. DuPree is also a member of the CMS Innovation Advisors Program. She has a BA in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California, Berkeley, and she received her MD from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York City.

After completing her clinical residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The Mount Sinai Hospital, Dr. DuPree practiced there and at Weill-Cornell, where she recognized the need for improved safety and quality in health care when healthy mothers and babies were harmed in the delivery system. In a series of progressive leadership roles at Mount Sinai, including Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs, she worked to improve the culture of safety, evidence-based care, and critical processes that impact patient care. In 2013, she joined the Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare as Chief Medical Officer and Vice President, where she collaborated with key stakeholders across the health care industry to develop, disseminate and facilitate adoption of solutions to transform the health care into a high-reliability industry. She is currently an executive physician advisor to the Center.
